Lady Cats Make It Eight Straight With 73-60 Win Over Alderson-Broaddus
     01/17/09...The Lady Cat basketball team used 9-13 from behind the three-point line to increase its win streak to eight straight games and stay unbeaten in WVIAC play with a 73-60 victory over Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College, Saturday evening in the Sports Center.  Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored a game-high 19 points, and Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) added 17 points to help Pitt-Johnstown improve to 9-5 overall and 7-0 in the WVIAC.
     Alderson-Broaddus climbed out to a 13-9 lead on Caitlyn Brown's lay-up 8:07 into the game, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with a 9-0 run over the next 5:09, capped by Kristin Irwin's (Bellefonte, Pa.) jumper, to give the Lady Cats an 18-13 lead.  Pitt-Johnstown extended the lead to as many as 12 points on Kaitlin Urban's (Johnstown, Pa.) third three-pointer of the half with 1:04 remaining, before taking a 35-25 halftime lead.
      Aden's layup with 17:29 to play in the second half put the Lady Cats up 40-25.  The Lady Battlers used a 22-12 run to cut the defict to 52-47 at the 9:53 mark, but that was as close as they would get.  Dalton's three-pointer from the top of the key gave Pitt-Johnstown its largest lead of the game at 67-49 with 6:22 to play, before going on to the 13-point victory.
     Aden used 8-12 shooting from the field, 1-1 from three-point range and 2-3 from the free-throw line to score a game-high 19 points.  Aden also pulled down a team-high six rebounds, while Dalton tallied 17 points, including 4-5 from behind the three-point line.  Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.  Urban finished with nine points on 3-3 shooting from three-point range, and Monae Baker (Bushkill, Pa.) collected eight points and five rebounds for head coach Sasha Palmer.
     The Lady Cats shot 53.3% in the second half to end the night at 46.0% (29-63).  Pitt-Johnstown also hit 69.2% (9-13) from three-point range and 6-8 from the free-throw line, while holding the Lady Battlers to just 39.0% shooting from the field and 1-14 from behind the three-point line.  Alderson-Broaddus out rebounded the Lady Cats 44-31 but committed 22 turnovers, compared to just 15 for Pitt-Johnstown.
     Chelsea Kuehner and Brown led the way for Alderson-Broaddus with 18 and 17 points respectively.  Katie Pollak scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Amanda Harris grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Lady Battlers, who dropped to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in the WVIAC.
     The Lady Cats travel to Concord (WV) University on Thursday and to Bluefield State (WV) University on Saturday, before hosting a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against the University of Charleston (WV) on Monday, Jan. 26 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
