Morgan, Walsh Win Titles at Wilkes Open
     12/28/08...Scott Morgan (125 lbs.) (North Huntingdon, Pa.) and Patrick Walsh (197 lbs.) (Leesport, Pa.) each won championships to lead a group of seven Mountain Cat wrestlers who placed in the top four at Sunday's 76th Annual Wilkes University Open.
     Morgan, who finished the tournament with a 3-0 record, won the title at 125 lbs. with a 5-2 decision over Nassau (NY) Community College's Ricardo Gomez.  Morgan also recorded a a fall and a major decision on his way to the championship.  Walsh was 4-0 on the day, that included a pair of wins over Penn State wrestlers and one over a Columbia (NY) University wretler, before earning a fall over Millersville University's Ray Bennett in the title bout at 197 lbs.
     Along with Morgan and Walsh, Adam Whetstone (Claysburg, Pa.) was the runner-up at 141 lbs.  Whetstone scored a fall and a major decision, before suffering a 7-6 loss to Josh Deiwa (unnattached) in the finals.
     Ryan Link (133 lbs.) (Cresson, Pa.) and Jon Moore (184 lbs.) (Leechburg, Pa.) both placed third.  Link lost his first match, but responded with four straight wins, while Moore lost to eventual champion Phil Bombarger (Penn State) on his way to finishing third.
     In addition, Kyle Keane (165 lbs.) (Bradford, Pa.) and Chris Dempsey (HWT.) (Sewickley, Pa.) collected fourth place finishes.  Steve Makin (174 lbs.) (Portage, Pa.) advanced to the semifinals, but did not place. 
     The Mountain Cats travel to East Region rival Kutztown University on Jan. 5.  Pitt-Johnstown’s next home match will take place on Friday, Jan. 30, at 7:00 p.m. when nationally-ranked Ashland (OH) University visits the Sports Center.
