Spousal Consolidation is something to choose carefully. With a spousal consolidation loan, each party is jointly and severally liable to repay the loan. Both parties must individually qualify for a deferment in order for it to be granted. Also, in the event of a divorce, the court may order a spouse to be responsible for more of the loan than was originally his/hers. When considering spousal consolidation, please discuss thoroughly with the loan servicer or lender with which you are consolidating before going through the consolidation process.
