Pitt Johnstown,10-18 overall and 9-11 in WVIAC play a year ago, showed steady improvement last year in Coach Palmer's initial season at the helm of the program.  Seven of the nine top players are back from the 2007-08 squad, including Second Team All-WVIAC Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) (5-10, Sr., G/F, 13.1 ppg) and WVIAC All-Freshmen Team selection Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) (5-7, So., G, 10.1 ppg).  A well-regarded crop of seven newcomers could help propel the Lady Cats upward in the league standings.
Fairmont State received nine of 16 first place votes to outdistance West Virginia Wesleyan College and Shepherd (WV) University in the annual pre-season predictions.  West Virginia Wesleyan and 2007-08 regular season champion Shepherd, the second and third choices in the poll, both were the top pick on three ballots.  University of Charleston (WV), West Liberty State (WV) College (one first place vote), Concord (WV) University, Glenville State (WV) College, and Pitt Johnstown complete the top half of the poll.
