JOB TILTLE: Database Administrator – Lockheed Martin, Valley Forge, PA
JOB DESCRIPTION:
My first job with Lockheed was as a Database Administrator. I basically just managed databases by creating them, monitoring them, etc. I worked with Oracle, Sybase, SQLServer, MSAccess and other databases. This job dealt with math in terms of setting up the disk requirements for the servers, monitoring the sizes of storage files, and figuring out performance and tuning for the databases. My next job was a Technical Project Lead for COTS Upgrades. We were upgrading version of Oracle, Unix, the backup system, and other COTS products. This job dealt with creating schedules, organizing meetings and figuring out technical approaches to performing the rollout. It dealt with math by figuring out the cost of the project and working with the financial department. Also, math was used to figure out the best way to get the project schedule (Operations Research). My current job is as a Database Technical Lead on a program that is in the development phase. This job deals with a lot of math in terms of finances. I am looking into a lot of COTS products and features of the databases. I really have to keep in mind cost impacts to any of my decisions.
NEATEST PROJECT OR ASPECT OF WORK:
All of the projects that I worked on are neat. They all deal with many different areas, such as, computers, math, cost, etc. ADVICE OR COMMENTS: Many companies look for someone who can think technically. They don't necessarily care about your major because they will train you on the job.
