Beverly Withiam

Professor Withiam has been a faculty member in the Engineering Technology Division of Pitt-Johnstown since September, 1982. 

Industrial Experience:

Facilities Engineer for Abex Corporation in Hollsopple, PA from 1979 to 1982

  • Selected to be an engineer at a new railroad wheel facility. Took part in a training program in Calera, AL that included all parts of plant operation.
  • Worked with designers and contractors following the construction progress of the new railroad wheel facility.
  • Worked with PA Department of Environmental Resources and USEPA personnel during the start-up and testing of necessary equipment. Involved with all water, air quality and solid waste matters at the facility once it was operational.
  • Became a licensed wastewater treatment plant operator to operate on-site treatment plant.

Power Engineer for Allegheny Power Service Corporation in Greensburg, PA from 1976 to 1979

  • Followed the work of a consultant during the design of fly ash areas at power stations. Conducted site inspections, approved plans and discussed projects with West Virginia Department of Natural Resources.
  • Worked on the implementation of coal samplers at various power stations. Worked on the start-up of a new power station for approximately 6 months following equipment installation and testing.
