Doug Reed is currently a visiting Assistant Professor of Management and Coordinator of the Management Internship Program at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He began teaching at Pitt-Johnstown in 1994 as a part time instructor in Quality Management. Doug teaches the following courses: Production and Operations Management, Organizational Behavior, Principles of Management, Human Resource Management. In the role as Internship Coordinator students are placed in numerous organizations (profit and nonprofit) around the greater Johnstown community to gain valuable work experience and apply their Pitt-Johnstown studies. Accounting, Finance, MIS, Economics, Marketing and Management students have all participated in this Program which began in 2000.

Doug is a graduate of University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and recently completed his MBA from St. Francis University at Loretto, PA.

Doug has extensive professional experience with 25 years invested in manufacturing operations, corporate training / development and consulting. The majority of his career has been with Bethlehem Steel Corporation, where his career encompassed the following positions: Looper (management trainee), Engineer, Foreman, General Foreman and Supervisor of Employee/Management Development. Upon early retirement from Bethlehem Steel, Doug lead the start-up of the resurrected Gautier Rolling Mills as J-Pitt Steel. Doug implemented an innovative self-directed work team concept for achieving the successful startup. Also, he served as Human Resource Director for Johnstown American Corporation, a major railroad car manufacturer. As a business consultant Doug has performed Team Building Seminars for American Red Cross, WJAC, and the Pitt-Johnstown Maintenance Group. Currently, he is serving as a corporate trainer and facilitator in Customer Service for UPMC-Lee Regional Hospital (700 Managers and Staff are participating).

Doug is the faculty advisor for the Pitt-Johnstown Business Fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi and was a past member of Delta Sigma Chi Social Fraternity when he attended Pitt-Johnstown his Freshman and Sophomore year and a member of the Pitt-Johnstown baseball team. Doug is a professional member of the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society.

Doug has a passion for teaching, coaching and training and enjoys sharing his past work experience with the next generation of business leaders. He is married to Viv and they reside in Stonycreek Township with 5 grown and flown children merged between them. However, the home still has two dogs, two cats and two horses.
