The Chemistry Department offers courses in the five major chemistry disciplines (analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic and physical). Students may elect the Chemistry or Biochemistry major (both B.S. degrees), the Chemistry/Biology dual major, certification to teach high school chemistry (through the Education Division) or a minor in Chemistry. The program also offers students the necessary chemistry courses for preparation for enrollment in pharmacy programs.
Students in chemistry have many opportunities to participate in research and/or engage in internships. See the Faculty web pages for more information about individual research projects. Students present their results at the annual Symposium for Academic and Creative Enquiry, Pitt-Johnstown SPACE.
The program prepares students for employment at the baccalaureate-degree level, for graduate study, or for professional programs in health-related areas.
