I am pleased to announce three administrative appointments in the area of Student Affairs: Mr. Jonathan D. Wescott, Director of Housing and Residence Life, has been appointed Vice President for Student Affairs (Interim); Mr. Mark R. Dougherty, Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life, has been appointed Director of Housing and Residential Living-Learning Communities; and Ms. Sherri L. Rae, Area Coordinator, has been appointed Assistant Director of Student Activities and Intercultural Affairs.
Mr. Jonathan Wescott
Having worked for over a decade in the student services field, Mr. Wescott brings extensive experience along with a proven record of success as an administrator. He has demonstrated excellent skill in dealing with complex operations including planning, budgeting, and facilities management. Mr. Wescott is a solid leader who will significantly advance the efforts currently underway in the Student Affairs division, and has proven his ability to effect change and build consensus among units.
Prior to his employment at Pitt-Johnstown, Mr. Wescott served as Director of Housing and Residence Life at Lebanon Valley College and Assistant Director of Residence Life at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Most recently, he was a member of the Facilities, Infrastructure and Technology Task Force, the Enrollment Management and First-Year Experience Task Force, and the Johnstown Planning and Budgeting Committee.
Mr. Wescott earned his BA in history from Lebanon Valley College, and his MS in counseling/student personnel from Shippensburg University. He is currently pursuing his EdD in higher education management through the University of Pittsburgh. He is a member of the American College Personnel Association, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, and the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International.
Mr. Mark Dougherty
Through his student-centered approach, Mr. Dougherty has demonstrated strong leadership capacity and a deep understanding of the needs of our residential students. He has considerable experience in critical operational areas including staff training and development, emergency response, budget management, and housing assignments.
Mr. Dougherty came to Pitt-Johnstown from Gardner-Webb University where he served in a number of administrative capacities, including Assistant Director of Residence Life, Interim Director of Residence Life, Coordinator of Judicial Affairs, and Area Director. He is currently a member of the Pitt-Johnstown Wellness and Outreach Committee, and served on the Student-Friendly Culture of Service Task Force and the Alcohol Review Task Force.
He received his BS in mathematics education from Gardner-Webb University and his MA in higher education-adult education from Appalachian State University. He is a member of the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International, and the American College Personnel Association.
Ms. Sherri Rae
Ms. Rae has demonstrated a strong commitment to student success and inclusivity. During her career, she has been involved in a number of important areas including the first-year experience, student leadership and development, and student programming. Her enthusiasm and strong ability to engage students will make her a valuable addition to our Student Life team.
At Pitt-Johnstown, Ms. Rae has worked as an Area Coordinator and has been a member of the University Scholarship instructional staff. She has coordinated the annual Worlds of UPJ Diversity Fair, and has been involved in judicial activities and on-call crisis response. Prior to coming to Pitt-Johnstown, Ms. Rae held positions including Director of Peer Education and Resident Director at Defiance College.
Ms. Rae earned her BA in history and MA in student personnel from Slippery Rock University. She is a member of the Association of Fraternity Advisors, American College Personnel Association, and the Pennsylvania College Personnel Association.
