Department News

The Communication Department is excited to announce the hiring of its newest faculty member, Kristen Lynn Majocha. Majocha has served as an instructor in the Communication Department at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown since 2006.  She will join the UPJ faculty as Assistant Professor of Communication September 1, 2008. Courses taught will be Organizational Communication, Public Speaking, and a forthcoming Capstone Course.

Previously Majocha taught at Duquesne University from 2004 to 2006 where she instructed courses in Public Speaking, Communication Ethics, and Scientific Presentation and Writing.  She also served as Graduate Director of the Public Speaking Course and Assistant to the Ethics Center at Duquesne.

 

Majocha has extensive upper level management experience in the marketplace having served as Executive Director for the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project, Development Director for St. Anthony School Programs, and Community Relations Specialist at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. Majocha also worked in radio broadcasting at WBUT/WLER/WISR in Butler, WKST in New Castle, and at WSHH in Pittsburgh.

Majocha’s research interests include Communication Ethics, Organizational Communication, Rhetoric, Intercultural Communication, and Religious Communication.  She is currently co-editing a book about prophetic rhetoric, has assisted with research on white women during the civil rights movement, and was a member of a research team that traveled to Montana to study the gift giving practices of the Blackfoot Nation.
