Pitt Johnstown senior center Carlos Cogsdell (Homestead, Pa.) led the Mountain Cats with 19 points on 9-11 shooting form the field and a team-high six rebounds, but it wasn’t enough, as the Battlers broke open a 41-39 halftime lead to win by nine. Junior guard Nick Mezyk (Johnstown, Pa.) added 16 points, including 4-4 from three-point range and senior forward Paul Byer (Johnstown, Pa.) chipped in 15 points and four rebounds. Junior guard Joey Tutchstone (Vandergrift, Pa.) rounded out the Mountain Cats who scored in double figures with 10 points, while guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) scored nine points and dished out five assists for the Mountain Cats, who fell to 4-1 on the year.
Both teams shot the ball well from the floor. Pitt Johnstown finished the game shooting 53.6% (30-56), while Alderson-Broaddus was 32-63 for 50.8%. However, the Battlers out-rebounded the Mountain Cats 37-25. Alderson-Braoddus hit 16 of their 19 free-throws, while Pitt Johnstown was 12-15 from the free-throw line.
Derrick Bell’s 21 points led four Battlers who scored in double figures. Mike Tucker and Zach Green tallied 18 and 17 points, respectively, and Samario Clancy collected 13 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to help Alderson-Broaddus raise its record to 2-1.
