LADY CATS EARN 67-57 WIN OVER MERCYHURST
IN SECOND ROUND OF IUP HOLIDAY INN TIP-OFF CLASSIC

     Senior forward Melissa Patterson (Alexandria, Pa.) poured in a game-high 23 points to help the Lady Cats raise their overall record to 2-1 and post a 2-0 record at the 2004 IUP Holiday Inn Tip-Off Classic with a 67-57 victory over Mercyhurst College Saturday evening. 
     Patterson shot 8-17 from the field,  6-6 from the free-throw line and dished out a game-high five assists to lead the Lady Cats.  Junior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) added 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while junior guard Jaclyn Schirf (Loretto, Pa.) chipped in nine points, three rebounds and four assists.  Pitt Johnstown also received seven points from sophomore forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and six points from sophomore guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.).
     Pitt Johnstown jumped out to a 35-28 halftime lead and raised the lead to 11 points with 7:34 to play, before going on to win by 10 points.  The Lady Cats shot 48% (24-50) from the field, while holding Mercyhurst to just 36.5% (23-63).  Pitt Johnstown was out rebounded 42-31, but forced 25 turnovers and made 13 steals.
     Jessica Olmstead's 12 points and Mary Clare Harland's game-high 11 rebounds led Mercyhurst College.  With the loss, Mercyhurst dropped to 0-2 to start the season.
