SAINT VINCENT IN FIRST ROUND OF IUP CLASSIC;
Conner Grabs Career-High 16 Rebounds


     Head Coach Jodi Gault and the Lady Cats rebounded from a tough loss at Clarion on Tuesday by handing Saint Vincent College a 72-59 setback in Friday's First Round of the 2004 IUP Holiday Inn Tip-Off Classic. Pitt Johnstown broke open a slim 54-49 lead by outscoring the Lady Bearcats 18-10 over the last 6:43 to earn the 13-point victory.

     Senior forward Melissa Patterson (Alexandria, Pa.) led all scorers with 26 points (one point shy of her career-high), including five three-point field goals and junior center Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa.) scored 16 points (10-10 from the free-throw line) and pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds to lead the Lady Cats. Sophomore forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 13 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) had seven points, five rebounds and a game-high six assists. Sophomore forward Shannon Reigh (Williamsburg, Pa.) chipped in four points and five rebounds and junior guard Jaclyn Schirf (Loretto, Pa.) collected six points, four rebounds and five assists to help Pitt Johnstown even its record at 1-1.
     The Lady Cats, who battled to a 28-28 halftime tie with Saint Vincent, outrebounded the Bearcats 48-37, including a 21-13 advantage on the offensive end. Pitt Johnstown also forced 20 Bearcat turnovers and hit 22 of their 26 free-throws (84.6%), compared to just 15-24 (62.5%) from the free-throw line for Saint Vincent.
     Sarah Rockwell led Saint Vincent with 19 points and Laura Klimchock added 12 points. Chanell Wade grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for the Bearcats, who fell to 0-6 on the year.
