Betsy Goenner Receives Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award for Staff
Article Body
I am pleased to announce that a member of our staff, Betsy Goenner, has received the Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award for Staff. Betsy was presented with the award at the University of Pittsburgh’s 27th Annual Honors Convocation on February 28. This honor recognizes Betsy’s contributions to UPJ, which include helping to establish the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and serves a treasurer, and is an active member of the UPJ Campus Association, Friends of the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, and the SAC Association. In addition, she serves as secretary to the UPJ Advisory Board. Betsy is also actively involved in a number of community organizations including the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Heart Association, and is a member of the Advisory Council of the Easter Seals Association, and the Salvation Army’s annual Project Bundle-Up. Betsy serves as secretary to the Church Council and serves on the Staff-Parish Relations and Lay Leadership Committees of the First United Methodist Church.
One colleague, who wrote in support of Betsy’s nomination, summarized her character by saying, “Betsy is a trusted colleague, a valued employee, a team leader and a loyal friend who, on a daily basis, demonstrates an outstanding commitment to the success of the University of Pittsburgh.”
Betsy began her career at UPJ in 1985 as a cashier in the Business Office, and worked in the Institutional Advancement Office before she was hired in her current position as Executive Assistant in the President’s Office.
