Eight Annual Business Forum

When: Thursday, September 24, 2009
Where:
Cambria Room, Student Union
Time: 6:00-9:00 pm

The Forum brings back recent graduates of the business program to talk about their post-Pitt-Johnstown experiences in work and graduate school and how they feel students can best prepare for professional and management careers.

The Forum will begin with informal presentations from three business alums: Mark Luther, Stacy Varmecky, and Tom Leslie. Each presenter will reflect upon his or her personal experiences as a working professional or graduate student and identify the skills and knowledge needed for success in the world of professional employment. A question-and-answer session will follow. Dinner will be served to all those attending.

This year’s trio of alums have varied backgrounds and interests:

Mark Luther, joined the Catanese Group in 2008 as a Staff Accountant in the Johnstown Office.  At the Catanese Group, Mark performs a variety of auditing, accounting, tax consulting, and other client services.  He is currently pursuing his license as a certified public accountant.  Mark graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, with a degree in Business.

Stacy Varmecky, a Johnstown native, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in April of 2009. A magna cum laude graduate, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Business with a dual concentration in Marketing & Management.  During her collegiate career, Stacy held a very active role at Pitt-Johnstown and held various officer positions. She belonged to Circle K; she was a student worker for the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs; Stacy ended her collegiate career as a student worker for the newly-renamed Academic Success Center where she held the position of Assistant Program Coordinator. Stacy is pursuing her MBA at Saint Francis University where she is the Graduate Assistant / Marketing Coordinator for the School of Business. Retaining involvement at Pitt-Johnstown, Stacy is a mentor for the first-year Business-Corporate Real World Interest Group.
