LEARN   Registrations are now being accepted for the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s 27th annual Learning, Enrichment and Recreation Network (LEARN) program, one of the longest-running premiere day camp learning experiences in the area.

Conveniently scheduled for mid-summer, when students “yearn to LEARN,” this year’s program will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 11, on the Pitt-Johnstown campus. The program is open to children who will be entering grades three through eight in the fall.  Each day includes action-packed and fun-filled informative courses, lunch and exciting activities.

Courses in this year’s program include “Planet Earth: Environmental Explorations,” where students will enter into a 30-foot inflatable earth balloon globe and explore “secrets” about Planet Earth.  In “Theatrical Thrills: Get into the Act,” students will discover the thrill of the theater.  It’s an election year and in the “Presidential Power: Go Red, White & Blue!” class, students will learn about some of the powerful American presidents of the past and participate in their very own LEARN presidential election.  Inquiring minds will learn about heredity and how everyone is unique in “Science Sampler: The Heredity Hunt.”  In “Cool Computers: 21st Century Technology,” students will learn how to create their very own web page while learning the importance of surfing the Internet safely.
LEARN introduces young people to the physical and social sciences, arts and humanities, current events and technology.  All LEARN activities take place on the Pitt-Johnstown campus, featuring state-of-the-art computer laboratories with high-speed internet connections, high-tech science labs, and lush natural setting.

The LEARN Program is presented by the Pitt-Johnstown Outreach and Professional Services Office.  The Pitt PowerPrice is $139 and includes daily lunch, all activities, supplies, souvenir t-shirt, and graduation ceremony.  The Pitt PowerPrice deadline is noon, Friday, June 6.  The price after June 6 is $169.  To register, call the Outreach Office at 814-269-2099.
