Lester Receives Rising Senior Scholarship Award

     Kristen Lester a junior mathematics major at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and daughter of Joseph Lester of Blairsville and the late Sheila Lester, was named the recipient of the Phi Kappa Phi Rising Senior Scholarship Award.

     The Rising Senior Scholarship was established in 2001 by the Pitt-Johnstown President and Johnstown Educational Foundation Board of Directors to provide recognition as a rising scholar for a student member of the UPJ Chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society in his/her junior year.  The Phi Kappa Phi Rising Senior Scholarship Award is presented annually to the top junior student being inducted in any given year, as selected by the Executive Committee of the Chapter.  The recipient of the award also is nominated to serve as student vice president of the Chapter for the coming year.

     Ms. Lester is a University Scholar, a UPJ President’s Scholar, member of Phi Eta Sigma national honor society, and the recipient of the 2008 Louis M. Ulery Award in Mathematics and the Thomas Crowley Scholarship.  She is president of the Newman Student Association, co-founder of the Spanish Club, and a member of the UPJ Concert Band.  She also serves as a Student Tour Guide and Admissions Representative and mathematics student tutor.
