Gilliam Opens CBI with Nine Points and Six Rebounds

scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds Renacci-Doraty Chevrolet in a 102-90 loss to open Thursday's 2008 College Basketball Invitational in Wadsworth, OH.

Gilliam
finished 4-10 from the field and 1-2 from the free-throw line. Four of his six rebounds came on the offensive end. In Thursday's second game,

was 2-6 from the field with five defensive rebounds.
Jeremy Black of Tampa and Ryan Williams of Pace led five players in double figures with 22 points apiece in Premier Pontiac's victory over Renacci-Doraty Chevrolet in the first game of the 2008 Collegiate Basketball Invitational in Wadsworth, Ohio.
Williams, 9-for-13 from the field, scored 14 of his 22 points in the first-half as Premier Pontiac used a 16-0 spurt in the first-half to break-open a 16-16 tie en route to a nine-point halftime lead at 55-46. Also scoring in double figures for Premier Pontiac was Jerome Pierce of Notre Dame (Ohio) and Sam Belt of Central Okla. with 15 points each, while Rod Banks of California (Pa.) added 13 points. Belt grabbed a game-10 rebounds in the win and Pierce dished out nine assists and pulled down seven boards.
Leading the way for Renacci-Doraty Chevrolet was Brad Harris of Lee with 23 points as he connected on six of his seven three-point attempts.
In game two of the Invitational, Tramaine Stevens of Florida Memorial led six players in double figures with 25 points as Renacci-Doraty Chevrolet defeated Galaxy 104-99 in the losers’ bracket.
Stevens scored 13 of his 25 in the second-half as he helped Renacci-Doraty Chevrolet erase a 12-point second-half deficit at 67-55. Renacci-Doraty Chevrolet used 14-0 run to take the lead at 69-67 and hung on to win its first game of the tournament. Collins Harris of Drury and Anthony Williams of Plattsburgh St. had 17 points each, while Marko Klaric added 13 points. Brad Harris of Lee chipped in with 12 points and Emporia St.’s DeAndre Townsend had a double-double as he dished out a tournament single-game record 12 assists, while pouring in 10 points.
Leading the way for Galaxy was Oregon Tech’s Ryan Fiegi with 20 points and eight rebounds. Callistus Eziukwu of Grand Valley St. added 17 points and eight rebounds, while Adron Marshall of Mountain St. chipped in with 16 points, Casey Holt of North Ala. pumped in 14 points and Washington-St. Louis’ Troy Ruths contributed with 13 points. Kameron Gray just missed a three-double as he had eight points to go along with seven rebounds and nine assists.
The Collegiate Basketball Invitational is a major national basketball event that gathers the finest 64 senior men's basketball players from all of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and Division III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I and Division II.
The event is taking place at Wadsworth High School in Wadsworth, OH. Each team has eight players in an eight-team bracket. Six games will be played both Thursday and Friday with the championship game being played Friday night at 8 p.m. The CBI will conclude with an all-star game Saturday evening at 8 p.m. in front of a live, ESPNU audience as 20 players will selected to play in the game.
