Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry

Responsibilities: Teaching duties include lower and upper level chemistry courses, particularly Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis (both with lab). The candidate will share responsibility for teaching General Chemistry with labs and general education chemistry courses for non-majors. Other responsibilities include maintaining currency in one’s area of expertise, engaging students in undergraduate research, contributing to maintenance of Department instrumentation, student advising and service to the Department and the University. 

Qualifications: A Ph. D. in Analytical Chemistry (completed by time of hire); a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and a commitment to research with undergraduates; evidence of experience in modern analytical instrumentation; effective oral and written communication skills.  A thorough working knowledge of analytical instrumentation and the willingness to share this knowledge is highly desirable. Ability to teach analytical and general chemistry should be documented by at least one of the following: letter of reference, peer review of teaching, student evaluations or teaching awards.  

Starting Date:  Fall 2008

Application package will include: (1) Letter of application, (2) current curriculum vita, (3) statement of teaching philosophy, (4) evidence of quality teaching, (5) plans for professional development and undergraduate research including equipment and facilities needed, (6) undergraduate and graduate transcripts (copies will suffice for initial screening), (7) statement of eligibility for employment in the United States (if not US citizen or permanent resident), and (8) three current and relevant letters of recommendation mailed directly to the Chair of the Search Committee.  The University’s hiring procedures do not allow for electronic applications.
