2004 Penn State Duals Recap - 11/14/04

#5-Ranked Mountain Cats Open Season with 3rd-Place Finish at Penn State Duals
After tuning up for the the 2004-05 season at last weekend's West Virginia University Open, Head Coach Pat Pecora (29th season) and the #5-ranked Pitt Johnstown Mountain Cat wrestlers jumped into the dual meet season with a very impressive third-place finish at Sunday's Penn State University Dual Championships.  Pitt Johnstown, seeded fourth at the tournament, began with a convincing 28-11 victory over Division I Slippery Rock University to advance to the Semi-Finals.  In the Semis, the Mountain Cats not only faced a Division I team in Lehigh University, but Division I's #2-ranked team in the country and the tournament's top-seed.  Lehigh demonstrated why they are the #2 team in the country with a 44-0 win over Pitt Johntown, forcing the Mountain Cats to battle Clarion University, the #3-seed and another Division I team, for Third Place.  In that match, the Moutnain Cats came together and dealt the Golden Eagles a 27-15 setback to finish third.  Junior Ryon Mazzocco (125 lbs.) (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria H.S.), senior Mark Glova (165 lbs.) (St. Benedict, Pa./Cambria Heights H.S.), sophomore Eli Garshnick (165 lbs.) (Armagh, Pa./United H.S.) and sophomore Mike Fowler (197 lbs.) (Carrolltown, Pa./Cambria Heights, Pa.) all pick up two wins each.  Pitt Johnstown kicked off the 2004-05 season with a 2-1 record, with both victories coming over Division I schools.
