#5 Wrestlers Post 1-2 Record Against Division I Teams at Lock Haven Duals
12/16/07...Sophomore Kyle Keane (165 lbs.) (Clearfield, Pa.) went 3-0 to lead the #5-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers to a 1-2 record againt three more Division I teams at Sunday's 2007 Lock Haven University Duals. Pitt Johnstown defeated Clarion University, 27-14, but suffered losses to the host school and Kent State (OH) University. The Mountain Cats are 3-2 overall and 2-2 against Division I teams.
Pitt Johnstown opened the day with a 27-14 win over Clarion. The Mountain Cats jumped out to a 9-0 lead on a decision by #3 Derrek Bosso (125 lbs.) (Pequea, Pa.) and a fall by #2 Brandon Reasy (New Enterprise, Pa.) over Rob Labrake at 133 lbs. The Golden Eagles battled back to take a 14-9 lead with a pair of major decisions and a fall. However, Pitt Johnstown answered with five straight wins to seal the victory. Sophomore Patrick Walsh (197 lbs.) (Leesport, Pa.) scored an 18-3 technical fall over Dixon Jordan, while three-time All-American and #3-ranked Mike Corcetti (184 lbs.) (Export, Pa.) won by major decision. #6-ranked Albert Miles (174 lbs.) (Canonsburg, Pa.), senior Zach Majocha (HWT.) (Upper Burrell, Pa.) and Keane all won by decision.
In round two, Reasy tied the score, 3-3, with a decison win over Dale Fava, but Lock Haven built a 13-3 lead after five bouts and held on for a 19-14 victory. The Mountain Cats cut the lead to 13-6 on Keane's decision and 16-11 following Corcetti's technical fall over Travis Stem, but Lock Haven scored a decison at 197 lbs. to ssecure the win. Majocha finished the match and set the final score at 19-14 with a 7-2 decision over Roman Husam.
The Mountain Cats ended the day with a tough, 34-6, loss to a very strong Kent State team that featured four wrestlers ranked among the Top-20 in Division I. Kent State ran out to a 19-0 lead, before Keane and Miles recorded Pitt Johnstown's only team points with decision wins.
Along with Keane's 3-0 record on three decisions, Reasy, Miles, Corcetti and Majocha all posted 2-1 records.
The Mountain Cats will break for the holiday season, before traveling to the Wilkes University Open on December 29. Pitt Johnstown’s next home match will take place on Saturday, January 5, at 1:00 p.m. when East Region rival Kutztown University visits the Sports Center.
