Vet helping vet...Let's talk!
It is simply not possible to explain the experience of going to war to a non-veteran. If you want and need your experience to be understood, you need to talk to war veterans. If you want and need to make sense out of your war experience, only other war veterans can help you with that. This is the underlying rationale for offering a "rap group" to the veterans on our campus. These are support groups in which Vets talk with Vets about their war experience and how it relates to everyday issues back home in civilian life. Trying to "forget about it" most often does not work, but rather, delays healthy adjustment to civilian life. (Click here to learn more about DELAYED STRESS). Let's talk!
If you are a war veteran and want to talk to another war veteran right now, contact Dr. Bob at the Personal Counseling Center. He has been to war. He has worked with numerous veterans over the years. If there is interest, we will start a rap group here at Pitt-Johnstown.
Travis Adams is a Pitt-Johnstown student and also a veteran. He intends to start a club during the Spring ('08) semester for military veterans. Our student newspaper, The Advocate (Vol 81, Issue 7) published an article describing his plans and gave his email address for those interested. He may be reached at tpa6@pitt.edu
