Things to remember before & during an exam

THE DAY BEFORE THE TEST

ü  Get plenty of sleep tonight
ü  Do something relaxing after you feel you are adequately prepared    for the test
ü  Use positive self-talk as part of your mental preparation
ü  Decide how you will reward yourself after the test is finished

TEST DAY
ü  Eat something small for breakfast
ü  BRIEFLY review the material
ü  Try to avoid caffeine
ü  Avoid talking to others who are anxious about the test
ü  Arrive a few minutes early so you are not rushing

DURING THE TEST
ü  Briefly review the entire test and read all directions carefully
ü  Answer the questions you know first so you can manage your time effectively
ü  Never leave an answer blank so that you can receive partial credit
ü  Pace yourself
ü  Use relaxation strategies throughout the exam in order to remain calm
ü  Counter negative thinking with more encouraging statements 

AFTER THE TEST…
Whether or not you did well, follow through with the reward you have planned for yourself!  Relax, enjoy, and indulge yourself---you deserve it! You worked hard to prepare for the exam didn’t you?
