     Dr. Nina Girard, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown associate professor of mathematics education, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics (PCTM).  The award was presented to Dr. Girard at the banquet of the 56th Annual PCTM conference on Thursday, November 8 in Valley Forge, Pa.  The PCTM is a professional organization of teachers, professors, administrators, supervisors, students, and others interested in the teaching and learning of mathematics.

     The service award is presented to the general conference chairperson upon the completion of the annual conference and reports.  Dr. Girard was recognized for her efforts in the planning and implementation of the 55th annual PCTM conference held last October at Seven Springs.  Over 700 math teachers (K-12 and college) attended with over 150 sessions/workshops and 75 exhibitors. 

     Dr. Girard received her bachelor’s degree from UPJ, master’s degree in applied mathematics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and doctorate in mathematics education from the University of Pittsburgh.
