Volleyball Earns 3-2 Victory Over Visiting PSU-Altoona
      10/03/07...It wasn't easy, but Head Coach Linda Renzi's Lady Cat volleyball team earned a tough, three-games-to-two victory over Penn State-Altoona, Wednesday night in the Sports Center.  Sophomore middle hitter Megan Lasut (Central City, Pa.) had 11 kills and four service aces to help Pitt Johnstown win its fourth straight match and improve to 7-9.
     The Lady Cats scored 30-26 and 30-20 wins in games one and three, but Penn State-Altoona claimed a pair of 29-31 wins in games two and four to force a deciding fifth game.  The teams battled back-and-forth until Pitt Johnstown was able to secure an 18-16 win.
     Freshman Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) led Pitt Johnstown with 13 kills, while Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) had nine kills and Casey Jo Ritenour (Latrobe, Pa.) collected seven kills, four block solos and five block assists.  Coach Renzi also got 29 and 18 assists, respectively, from Merissa Larrew (Irwin, Pa.) and Taylor King (York, Pa.) and seven digs and three block assists from Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.)Katie Shadron (Ligonier, Pa.) finished with nine digs, and Kim Shubra (Penn Run, Pa.) chipped in six digs in the victory.
     With the loss, Penn State-Altoona fell to 14-5 on the season.
     The Lady Cats travel to Salem International (WV) University on Saturday and to Seton Hill University on Monday for WVIAC matches, before returning home to host conference matches against the University of Charleston on Friday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. and West Virginia State University on Saturday, October 13 at 12:00.
