The Advocate
147 Student Union Building -  Ext. 7470

The Advocate is the weekly student newspaper for Pitt Johnstown.  The newspaper is staffed and managed by UPJ students and is available to the UPJ community at no cost.  The mechanics of the paper include editing and layout through the use of Apple Macintosh computer systems. Advocate photographers also take, develop, and print their own photographs.  Students interested in writing, photography, advertising, or business are invited to join the staff.

Backroads
207 Biddle Hall - Ext. 7185

Backroads, the University literary magazine, is published several times a year by a student editorial staff.  The magazine also publishes a special Awards Issue each year that displays the talents of the winners of the Humanities writing awards.  Students and faculty are encouraged to submit poetry, short stories, literary criticisms, and other prose works as well as occasional illustrations for publication.  Creative expression is encouraged.

WUPJ-Radio

WUPJ, the student-operated radio station, provides students with training and practical experience in radio announcing, engineering, programming, and other aspects of radio. UPJ events, campus news, public service information, and a wide variety of music make up the broadcast format.  Any full-time student is eligible to join the radio staff; however, new DJ’s must undergo a training program during the first term of membership.   The studio is located on the upper level of the Student Union.

WUPJ – TV

The goal of WUPJ-TV is to provide students the opportunity to gain a deeper education in the field of television, the possibility of technical television experience, and the chance to achieve goals in broadcast journalism in the television medium.  This is achieved in cooperation with the UPJ Audio-Visual Department. WUPJ-TV maintains a philosophy of gaining new skills and improving existing ones through a high standard of professionalism for possible use in a related career.
