     11/12/09...Pitt-Johnstown senior outside hitter Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) and senior middle hitter Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) were named to Honorable Mention All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Women’s Volleyball when this year’s teams were released on Thursday...      Gearhart, a graduate of Forest Hills High School, led the Lady Cats in total digs (335) and digs per game (3.32.) and tied for the team lead in service aces with 28.  Gearhart also had 43 kills and 12 blocks.
     Irwin, a Second-Team All-WVIAC selection in 2008, paced Pitt-Johnstown with 249 kills (2.47 kpg.).  Irwin, a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School, also led the Lady Cats in total blocks (95), block solos (31) and block assists (64), while her 2.52 hitting percentage ranked second on the team.
     The Lady Cats finished the 2009 season with a 12-16 overall record and a 4-10 mark in the WVIAC.  Pitt-Johnstown earned a berth in the WVIAC Tournament as the No. 11-seed, but suffered an opening round loss to No. 6-seeded Glenville State (WV) College.
     WVIAC regular season champion Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University claimed both of the league's top player honors for the 2009 volleyball season.  Junior Keysha Allison was named WVIAC Player of the Year, while teammate Allissa Ware was the league's Freshman of the Year.
     Shepherd (WV) University's Sarah Smith garnered the award for WVIAC Coach of the Year after the Rams nearly doubled their win total in 2009.

Volleyball Falls to Glenville State in First Round of WVIAC Tournament
     11/12/09... (Box Score)  Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) had 16 kills, a block solo and five block assists, and Nicole Houser (Penn Run, Pa.) added 14 kills, but it wasn't enough, as #6-seeded Glenville State (WV) College dealt the #11-seeded Lady Cat volleyball team a 3-2 loss in Thursday's opening round of the 2009 WVIAC Tournament at the Catholic Sports Center in Charleston, WV.  Pitt-Johnstown finished the year with a 11-17 overall record and a 4-10 mark in the WVIAC.
     The Lady Cats lost 25-20, 24-26, 18-25, 25-19 and 11-15.
     Along with Irwin and Houser, Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) had six kills and nine digs, while Ashley Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa.) added five kills, three block solos and one block assist.
     Taylor King (York, Pa.) (26 assists) and Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) (11 assists) combined to collect 37 set assists.  King also had two service aces and seven digs.
     Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) led Pitt-Johnstown with 13 digs.  Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.) chipped in 10 digs.
