Pitt-Johnstown Salutes Our Military Veterans
During the week of November 9 through the 13, the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown campus community will honor its military veterans as part of its MountainCat Veterans Program (MVP). The MVP, which was introduced earlier this year to assist veterans in making a successful transition to college, is administered by the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Alan H. Teich.
Among the tributes planned for the week are:
- American flags will be hung at both campus entrances and will line the walkway leading from Blackington Hall to the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cat statue. Proceeds from the purchase of these flags supported the Vietnam Veterans of America, Johnstown Chapter #364.
- Custom banners will be hung in the lobbies of Biddle Hall, Blackington Hall, Engineering and Science Building, Krebs Hall, and the Student Union. A banner will also be hung at the entrance of the Living/Learning Center.
- Special posters have been designed in honor of our veterans, and will be hung in administrative and classroom buildings across campus.
- President Spectar will host a dinner for all members of the Pitt-Johnstown MountainCat Veterans Program on Veteran’s Day. Marine Corps Major General Thomas S. Jones will deliver the keynote address. (This event is by invitation only.)
- Members of the campus community are encouraged to wear red, white and blue on Wednesday, November 11 as a tribute to military veterans everywhere.
Special thanks to our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Advisory Board members who served in the United States military.
Special red, white and blue lapel pins will be sold during the week (beginning on Monday, November 9). Proceeds from the sale of the pins will be used to support veteran outreach initiatives at Pitt-Johnstown. Pins can be purchased for $2 each at the information desk in the Student Union or in the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, 248 Blackington Hall. | |
