ATH09_210_PalmerJamal     Jamal Palmer joins Head Coach Bob Rukavina’s staff after spending the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach at NCAA Division III Saint Vincent College.  Prior to that, Palmer was the interim head coach at Division II Slippery Rock University in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
     Palmer, a native of Philadelphia, Pa. and a graduate of West Catholic High School, played college basketball at Division II Millersville University, where he was named the 1998 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Player of the Year following his junior season in 1997-98.  Palmer was an Honorable Mention All-American in both 1998 and 1999, and a three-time First-Team All-PSAC  selection.
     After graduating from Millersville with a degree in Social Work in 1999, Palmer continued his playing career for four years at the professional level in England, Luxembourg and Finland.  Following his only season playing for Worthing Thunder in England, Palmer garnered Most Valuable Player honors in the England Basketball League as a forward/center.  Palmer followed that with Most Valuable Player and Co-Most Valuable Player honors in two seasons in the Luxembourg Professional League.
     Palmer finished his playing career and joined the coaching ranks as an assistant at Shippensburg University for two seasons, before going to Slippery Rock as an assistant coach in 2005-06.
