ATH08_053_GearhartA_TVolleyball Opens WVIAC Play With 3-1 Loss at Shepherd
     09/16/09..Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) collected six kills, a pair of service aces and 16 digs, but the Lady Cat volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss at Shepherd (WV) University, Wednesday night to open the 2009 WVIAC schedule.   Pitt-Johnstown fell to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the WVIAC.
     After winning game one 25-23, the Lady Cats suffered 21-25, 17-25, 13-25 losses.
     Along with Gearhart, Ashley Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa.) added six kills, three bolck solos and a block assist, while Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) had five kills and three block solos.  Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) chpped in five kills, two block solos and 11 digs.  Taylor King (York, Pa.) and Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) led the Lady Cats with 14 and nine digs, respectively.  Head CoachLinda Renzi also got 24 digs and a service ace from Kimberly Shubra (Penn Run, Pa.) and a block solo and a block assist from Nicole Houser (Penn Run, Pa.) in the loss.
     With the victory, Shepherd improved to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
     The Lady Cats travel to WVIAC matches at Glenville State (WV) College on Friday and West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday, before hosting their first home match of the 2009 season against Penn State-Altoona on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in theSports Center.
